Children have the ability to bring out the best and worst in parents, and once they learn how to push your buttons they will keep on doing it until the get what they want. The fact is that losing your cool and yelling at your kids won't solve anything, and the ability to remain calm is essential to children's healthy development for several reasons. Losing your self control and yelling at your kids is terrifying to them, and you are sending messages of hate to those whom you are supposed to love the most. Second, children look to their parents as a safe haven in a world that is pretty scary. When parents lost control they send the message to their kids that they aren't strong enough to protect them from that world.
